New Entrant Open Day

Sky Park Farm, West Harting, Hampshire GU31 5PF

by kind permission of Pierce Noonan & Dom Strutt

Sky Park Farm is a new entrant deer farm, that is in the early stages of creating a small commercial venison unit.

The open day will cover progress on the farm and the transformation since October 2016, when it was purchased (from overgrown scrub and every conceivable type of rubbish!) to current productivity.

The farm is 77 acres and currently has 61 breeding hinds, with a further 24 yearlings and 50 calves, with a view to expanding a little over time as the acreage allows.  The farm has been done very much on a DIY basis, all the fencing, landscaping, groundworks and handling system has been built in house by farm manager Dom Strutt and his team.

There will be a presentation on grassland management from Jonathan Holmes of Lordington Park Agronomy and the rest of the day will look at the theory of deer fencing along with a practical demonstration in the afternoon.

This will be an informative day, especially for the prospective deer farmer looking to set up a deer farm and what can be achieved, but potentially insightful for the experienced deer farmer that have always used fencing contractors in the past.

Along with this, it is as always a great opportunity for those that we all seldom see, to have a good catch up!
